When you volunteer to serve in the MDDF, you will serve one weekend day a month usually on a Saturday. Volunteers report to work at 7:45 a.m. and generally end work at 5 p.m. Volunteers are not compensated for volunteer hours. However, volunteers may be eligible for compensation when officially ordered to active duty by the state. MDDF volunteers may work side-by-side with members of the U.S. Armed Forces as well as state and federal emergency counterparts. MDDF follows many of the U.S. Army and Army National Guard regulations, customs, and courtesies and as such, our members comply with the highest level of professionalism, accountability, and military bearing. Volunteers have a direct and important impact in their interactions with each other and others outside of the organization. MDDF members are dedicated, inspirational, and role models of Maryland's finest citizens.
Volunteers may serve in their professional field or specialty, or train and work on a different area available in the MDDF. The MDDF offers professional and personal development opportunities through specialized skills training and leadership development.
MDDF volunteers fall under two service categories: a) Enlisted ranks; b) Commissioned Officer ranks. Your assigned MDDF Recruiter will provide more information on this topic and will help you place in the correct category based on several factors such as education and experience.
